Idea #4: Magnetic Zippers

Okay a zipper is a simple machine, a wedge. No machine is 100% efficient, so this would mean somewhere in a zipper friction is happening. And people epically fail and get zippers stuck, and eventually ruin their jacket. So I was thinking about a solution. For friction to happen, two objects have to touch each other. If you hold two like poles of a magnet next to each other, they repel each other. They don't touch, so no friction. This idea is used in a maglev train. It uses magnets to move.

So what if you can make zippers out of magnets? It would be able to come together, and separate by switching poles. Can this stop people from failing and ruining their $100 jackets?

  1. Sorry but the Maglev train doesn't hold the two sides of the track together.
